On-the-job, technical and soft skills training.

New Hires at Ketel Thorstenson receive a mix of both on-the-job, as well as technical and soft skills training.

New employees are matched up with a “Buddy” for the first six weeks of their employment, during which time they are also encouraged to participate in our new mentor program.

Technical training takes place May-December each year. It is comprised of a mix of facilitator led seminars, online coursework and independent study. If an employee shows an interest in attaining more knowledge in a certain niche, he/she may travel for additional CPE. Ketel Thorstenson supports its employees in their certification needs and ensures that annual hours are met or exceeded for all professionals.

In addition, Ketel Thorstenson also offers an array of personal development (soft skills) sessions and seminars for employees to participate in. Some of these are held in-house, and some of these are community wide educational events. The firm pays for all training. Finally, Ketel Thorstenson also subscribes to the Upstream Academy Series of Training Seminars. Several of these sessions are taught in the Spring/Summer and are referred to as Fish School.
