Ketel Thorstenson, LLP is a proud supporter of the internship program. Now in its third year, the program has been very beneficial for students and the firm.

Interns are especially sought after for the Winter/Spring semester (Jan-March), but applications are also taken for Summer internships. The internships are fully paid at a competitive hourly wage. In addition, the firm provides moving expenses and assistance in locating suitable housing. Ketel Thorstenson typically hires 3-5 interns/year. Third, Fourth and Fifth year students are encouraged to apply. Students should have a 3.0 GPA and have completed Intermediate Accounting prior to applying for an internship.

The following is the job description for an intern:

Position: Audit – Staff Level, Internship

This position provides the opportunity to perform a variety of diversified audit and accounting assignments during a brief period of time, typically January through mid-March. The January through March timeframe will ensure that there is enough work throughout the internship and allow interns to work in the field at client sites. Interns will be assigned a mentor who will assist them from their early days at the firm and throughout their internship and serve as great contact should the intern be asked to return for a full-time position. Interns will have the opportunity to work as a team member on diverse client engagements to include manufacturing, not-for-profit, governments, healthcare, construction, and financial institution clients.

Audit interns with Ketel Thorstenson are responsible for:

  • Developing relationships with client employees.
  • Assisting clients with routine accounting functions.
  • Becoming familiar with and adhering to the Firm's policies and procedures.
  • Drafting financial statements under the firm’s prescribed format.
  • Preparing portions of compilation, review and audit engagements, including documenting the execution of specific procedures performed
  • Developing a working knowledge of several microcomputer applications that are routinely used.
  • Demonstrating a basic understanding of accounting and income taxes.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have three or more years of education at the time of their internship and should be seeking an Accountancy degree. They should also be interested in a career with a public accounting firm, possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be dedicated to working in a team-based environment.
